LadyBug Pattern Corrections:

Note the following typos to the pattern:
Rnd 18 has been left out. Actually, it should be included in Rnd 19-21--Just change to read: Rnd 18-21. On Rnd 27 I mention working 2 dc’s last dc of each 5 dc group. It should read 6 dc group, as there are 6 dc’s in each group. Same is true with the directions for the trim: there are 6 dc’s in each group, not 5.
Thank you for your patience!

A LIttle Crochet History...

During the 1800’s, most crocheting was limited to making crochet lace (Irish crochet) and articles used in convents. Crochet lace was considered a luxury, and was taxed. Queen Victoria was a big proponent of the art of crocheting, and had an Irish crochet veil made for her wedding. Later, she had this re-worked into a christening gown. When the middle class started making household items with crochet, a great controversy arose. Many felt that crochet should be confined to lace making, and sold only to the rich. Because of this, Weldon’s Practical Crochet became a focal point of that controversy. So, although crocheting has been around for a long time, it has only been in the last 100 years or so that it has become a household art - similar to knitting.

Charlie & the Chocolate Factory

Charlie & the Chocolate Factory
A friend of mine watched the Tim Burton version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory a few days ago. She told me that every time they show Charlie in his home with his grandparents, his grandmother is always crocheting AND in many scenes she has a crocheted hat on. Who knew?!

Crochet In The Movies

In the movie "The Miracle Worker," Annie Sullivan (Anne Bancroft) is teaching the young Helen Keller (Patty Duke) to crochet. She then spells the word into Helen's hand but Annie cannot spell "crochet". She stumbles on it, corrects herself, corrects herself again and finally, in exasperation, spells "sewing" into Helen's hand. It's a great scene!

Puff Stitch

Make a foundation chain with an even number of stitches.

Row One: To crochet the first row, take a single crochet stitch into each of the foundation chain stitches made in the previous step. Make 6 chain stitches and turn your work.

2nd Row: Bring the yarn over the crochet hook so that the yarn is caught in the hook sectopm. Make the puff stitch by inserting the hook into the second single crochet stitch in from the hook. Bring through a 1/2" loop. Rep this twice, leaving 7 lps on the hook. Bring the yarn over the hook as you did at the beg. of the step, and pull the 7 lps through. Make 1 ch st, and rep. the following stitching sequence until you come to the end of the row: Make 2 ch sts. Skip over 2 sc sts, and (as you did above) insert the hook into the second sc st in from the hook and bring through a 1/2" lp. Rep. this twice, leaving 7 lps on the hook. Bring the yarn over the hook as you did at the beginning of the step, and pull the 7 loops thru. Ch-1, turn.

3rd Row: Make a single crochet stitch into each chain stitch as well as each puff stitch until you reach the end of the row.

Finish the piece by repeating the instructions for Row 2 & 3

Marine Corp Kids (Charity)

Operation Marine Corps Kids was started to help new mothers whose husbands are deployed overseas. They will be sending care packages to the familes of these troops when babies are born. They are in need of baby blankets, sweaters, hats, booties and anything else new mothers need for their babies. They would also like to collect toys for older children. Please use soft acrylic yarns and pretty baby colors.
